Update 25 June 2014 - Food distributions by ACTED in Khazir transit camp are ongoing. These distributions need to be coordinated with those of non-food items. In Khazir camp, 1,367 mattresses, 1,329 blankets, 362 hygiene kits, 660 water jerry cans, 340 food parcels, along with other items such as plastic sheets, trash bins, pillows, water coolers, kerosene for cooking and jerry cans for kerosene, have been distributed so far for those displaced in the camp. Handicap International has expanded its team in Iraq in order to provide support to the most vulnerable people. An estimated 180 families are displaced in Duhok city and 1,200 families in Chamchamal due to recent fighting. 273 tents have been set up so far with a constant influx of internally displaced people in KRI. On the 18th of June, water trucking and solid waste collection activities were put in place. Khazir camp in Erbil where ACTED teams are fully mobilized, has an expected capacity of 7,500 people (1,500 families). In Kalak camp in Erbil, preparations have been done for distributions of jerry cans and food parcels to 80 families. Iraq’s ongoing displacement crisis has intensified over the past two weeks as Mosul city and many parts of Salahaddin and Diyala have fallen under the control of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
