Freedom of Expression in Iraq is Deteriorating Rapidly. Human Rights Defenders are at Risk and Afraid! UIMS - Medical Clinic in the Syrian Refugees camp in Al-Obeidi

Funded by UNHCR, UIMS started the project of a Medical Health Center in the Syrian Refugee Camp in Al-Obeidi At the beginning, we renovated and re-arranged all medical sections such as the emergency section, the clinic and the pharmacy that will be working throughout the day, we also re-arranged the laboratory section that works for more than 12 hours a day to provide a full laboratory analysis for patients. The specialists section also started running smoothly, four specialists in various specialization work on six different days a week. Also in the first period of Management of the Center by UIMS, we bought a mini-bus for the referral of non-critical cases to receive the best medical care possible. In addition there…

UIMS - The Green Initiative

The Green Initiative was launched under the guidance of the presidency of UIMS to decorate the medical center. The initiative gave a beautiful green atmosphere of peace and love to the center. The clinic's staff also put up many poster of famous Syrian locations inside the clinic to make the patients feel better and make them feel like they are not far from home. Many of the staff of UIMS have contributed to this initiative and there was also a significant contribution from the management of Al-Obeidi hospital, Al-Qaim Hospital and the UNHCR field team. The most important participation however came from Syrian refugees who built a nice fence around the gardens at the entrance of the clinic.

UNHCR, WFP and UNICEF - Interagency Rapid Assessment of IDPs in Al Qaim

The Anbar crisis escalated into armed conflict by the end of December 2013. At the centre of the armed conflict were the two largest cities of Anbar province, Fallujah and Ramadi. Use of firearms and rockets within the city boundaries forced residents of Fallujah and Ramadi to flee their hometowns. By March 2014, about 65,000 families had been displaced, mostly to other cities of Anbar but also as far north as the KRG and as far south as Basrah. The severity of the conflict resulted in the whole province being classified by the UN with the security severity level of “very high” or code Black. DRC - IDP KAP Survey in Missan, report

DRC has been present in Missan Governorate since its inception in Iraq (2003). The organization has provided different services to targeted vulnerable populations. These services include; shelter, WASH, Livelihoods and Emergency Assistance. The main demographics targeted have been IDPs and female heads of households. In 2012 DRC conducted a Service Mapping and Durable Solution Assessment in Missan, Baghdad and Diyalla Governorates. The assessment looked at both government levels and local structures that support durable solutions for IDPs and also assessed the willingness and capacity of local communities to integrate IDP caseload in case they wanted to do so.
