NCCI Successfully Concludes NGO-HCT Elections

  • Tuesday, 09 September 2014
In response to an initiative put forward by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in July, NCCI recently concluded the successful facilitation of elections that have defined the NGO representatives to occupy permanent seats on the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) in Iraq. The election of 5 permanent NGO members, alongside NCCI, will ensure that the international and national NGO community will have a consistent and dedicated voice, which is vitally important given the escalation of violence and insecurity throughout the country.
A selection of NGOs nominated themselves as potential candidates in the elections, according to a predetermined and agreed upon set of criteria, and voting took place throughout the course of this month to contribute towards a free, fair and democratic outcome to the election process. The HCT continues to be an essential humanitarian coordination platform at the country level in Iraq for the full spectrum of humanitarian actors. It is a forum from which strategy and policy is initiated to ensure a prepared and organised collective humanitarian response.
NCCI wishes the best of luck to each of the NGO candidates that were successfully nominated for NGO-HCT representation. These NGOs are as follows:

Norwegian Refugee Council – NRC
Save the Children International - SCI
International Rescue Committee - IRC
Danish Refugee Council - DRC
Mines Action Group - MAG
