A preliminary consultative meeting was convened by the Department for Foreign Relations to brainstorm mechanisms for inter-agency coordination in wake of Syrian refugee crises and also to solicit more support from the international community and humanitarian actors to address the assorted challenges. NCCI has advocated to integrate the on-going coordination efforts for multiplier effect and also to build political will among donors to support coordination during emergencies. Additionally, NCCI has suggested to take academia on board to advise on strategies and public policies for the Syrian refugees. NCCI is hoping that the policies and strategies developed by the task force will enable KRG to plan and respond effectively to any unprecedented emergency in future. The Committee has also urged that the task force look into innovative approaches to bridge funding gulf by encouraging non-traditional and non-institutional donors to support aid agencies in KRG. The meeting was well attended by UN missions, media, and NGO representatives. The step taken by the government in the direction of creating a regional task force was greatly appreciated by all. The task force will meet on quarterly basis to outline a strategy and a work plan for concerned stakeholders.
