On 9 March the NGO Coordination Committee for Iraq (NCCI) held its annual General Assembly meeting at the Classy hotel in Erbil. The General Assembly, which is comprised of all of NCCI’s members, is the governing body of NCCI and is responsible for formulating and reviewing policies and programs. The meeting provided a crucial opportunity for members to provide feedback on NCCI’s activities during the past year (2014), while also allowing them to participate in the planning for the current year.
The General Assembly was attended by 25 international and national NCCI member NGOs. The meeting started with a review of last year’s General Assembly, where members decided to review NCCI’s strategic approach. When discussing NCCI’s activities in 2014, the attending members agreed that NCCI’s programs had improved both in quality and in relevance during the past year, but it was noted that the participation of local NGOs could be improved. After this discussion, NCCI staff members presented the financial report and the evolution of NCCI’s membership in 2014, followed by the activity plan for 2015.
The election of the new Executive Board is also one of the main tasks of the General Assembly. Nine NGOs expressed their interest in becoming part of the NCCI board. The following seven NGOs were elected to serve on NCCI’s board in 2015: Acted, DRC, FUAD, IRC, MC, NRC and UPP.
This event was made possible thanks to the generous support of BSI and SDC.
