About Peace Network
This peace network is one of the “Right to Live in Safety Campaign” outcomes which has been implemented by NCCI within the National Dialogue Program which in its turn was supported by UNDP in order to promote the concepts of peace, coexistence and human rights.In accordance with the right to live in safety (RLS) campaign outcomes and first stage conclusions; one network and Academic NGO were recommended  to be formed; CSO and Academics network as networking is characterized with:
  • Bringing about a greater impact in the targeted community.
  • Facilitating coordination among the member CSOs.
  • Accumulating experience through joint work.
  • Resources sharing with others.
  • Bigger opportunities of success.

RLs team held two preparatory meetings with CSOs and academics in order to provide them with neutral forum to discuss the formation of the networks. Participants on those meetings identified certain criteria to select CSOs & academics who will form those networks. These criteria were mandates, level of participation in RLS first stage (motivation within RLS campaign) , field of work, contact with the population, experience. Have identifying the selection criteria, RLS team embarked on facilitating the selecting the members of the two networks, four preparatory meetings were organized with each component for this purpose.


CSO network

During the preparatory meeting 19 CSOs were selected to form the CSO network. These CSOs held four preparatory meetings during which drafted charter of the CSO network was approved, the members asked the RLS team to draft a charter and bring it to discussion. After along discussion the charter of the network was approved.  The network is specialized in peace building and promotion, advocacy and lobbying on peace related causes thus it was named “ Peace Messengers”. The structure of the network was also approved as five CSO were elected as a coordination board, and a general coordinator was also elected by the members.

Academic NGO

According to the same selection criteria used in CSO selection, the academics NGO’s members were selected. 16 academics were selected to for the academic NGO, this NGO needed a charter to organize its work and structure as such a draft charter was proposed and discussed by the academics. Like the CSO network formation process, the formation of the academic network needed four preparatory meetings to approve the charter and identify the structure of the NGO. “Academics for Peace” was chosen as the name of the academic network.
Peace network implemented the final stage activities in RLS Campaign and they demonstrated a high level of volunteer work and coordination which in its turn enlarged the impact of these activities. As most of the final stage activities were jointly implemented by the network members, the activities witnessed a wide range of beneficiaries

In order to effectively contribute to Iraq's recovery, the EU and its member states, including the UK, should acknowledge the need for more significant and longer-term commitment.  Furthermore, they should improve aid effectiveness by ensuring more direct participation of the Iraqi people in the recovery processes.
